I’ve been hemming and hawing about what to write in my first blog post….for about two months now. Several brilliant subjects have presented themselves to me. Beginnings! Is there a better way to start writing something than by writing about starting something? Gratitude! The panacea for all forms of malaise, among other ideas.
Many important things have taken precedent over writing something and sending it to you. There were oh-so-many final adjustments I had to make the website before I could share it with a wider audience, and there are only so many hours in the day. What is a perfectionist to do? A ton of procrastination as it turns out, much consulting of experts, listening to seminars online, scheduling of classes and “self-care” of various types. There was desk tidying, closet cleaning, new project starting, hours of self doubt, some eating of pastry, some planning of future projects.
But my will to communicate is finally overcoming my fear of not doing it right. This humble musing represents my triumph over indecision and worry.
Action is a great restorer and builder of confidence. Inaction is not only the result, but the cause, of fear. Perhaps the action you take will be successful; perhaps different action or adjustments will have to follow. But any action is better than no action at all.
(Norman Vincent Peale 1898 – 1999)
So with complete lack of expectation and nothing groundbreaking to say I begin the blog portion of the proceedings by putting these words on a page in the name of taking action. Because as Mr. Peale says “any action is better than no action at all.”
One small step for Vital Being, one giant step in the name of creating.
What action can you take today that puts out into the world what is inside of you?
